| Hongfeng Lake |
|
A
national scenic resort, Hongfeng (Red Maple) Lake is found
in the suburb of Qi ngzhen, 33 kilometres from Guiyang.
Covering 57.2 square kilometres, it is the l argest man-made
lake on the Guizhou Plateau. Hongfeng Lake consists of
the North and South lakes. The 170 isles, the numerous
caves , the clear water and the qu iet bays are well known.
Folklore of the Dong and Miao people are demonstrated
i n the resort. |
| Huzxi |
|
| Located
17 kilometres south of Guiyang, Huaxi Park, a large natural
park, is the centrepiece of this scenic resort. Scenic
attractions of the park are centred a round the four small
and exquissite hills: Unicorn, Phoenix, Turtle and Snake.
T he water of Huaxi River is clear and clean. Huaxi is
home to over 1,000 varietie s of cultivated flowers which
bloom year round. A river tour from Dqjiang Hill t o Biyunwo
offers views of beautiful landscapes along the entire
river. Jitian Pa vilion atop Unicorn Hill provides a panoramic
view of the park. |
| Qianling Mountain |

| Found
in the northwest corner of Guiyang and tow kilometres
from downtown, this park was opened in the 1950s. The
300 hectare affair includes such mountains as Xiangwang,
Tanshan, Baixiang and Daluo. Characterised by the tranquillity
of its mountains, the density of its woods and the clearness
of its lakes, Qianling Mo untain has been a famed tourist
resort in Guizhou since ancient times. Infront o f the
mountain are such sites of cultural interest as the Unicorn
Cave, Ancient Buddha Cave and Bowl-Washing Pond. Behind
the mountain is Qianling Lake whose mirror-like surface
of surrounded by green mountains, and whose shores are
graced with waterside pavilions, stone dik es and long
corridors. Honfu Temple, built in 1672, is known for its
imposing bu idings and the exquisite sculpture of its
Buddhist statues and 18 Arhats. |
| Nanjiao Park |

| Also
known as Underground Park, Nanjiao (South Suburb) Park
is seven kilometres south of Guiyang. The White Dragon
Cave is the central focus of the park. The ca ve, a 587-metre-long
tunnel, is divided into two sections, A myriad of stone
cur tains, stone flowers, stone pillars and stalagmites
fill the cave, turningh it i nto an exotic fairytale world.
The scenery above the cave is also charming. |
| Baihua Lake |

Situated 22
kilometres northwest of Guiyang on the upper reaches of
Maotiao Rive r, Baihua (Hundred-Flower) Lake is a vast
expanse of clear water,whose surface o f studded with
110 isles of varying sizes and shapes. Lusi(Egret) lsle
to the ea st is a natural habitat of egrets. The south
of the lake is clustered with sceni c spots, and the better
known ones are Yanbei Gorge, Yanbei Peak, Jinyin Gorge,
Mogu Peak, Hongwu Gorge and Hongwu Temple. There are also
limestone caves on som e of the isles. |
| Tianbe Pool |

The scenic resort
,located 24 kilometres southwest of Guiyang, is centred
on a c hear pool surrounded on all sides by steep cliffs
covered with lush trees. There are two natural limestone
caves in the cliffs. One of them is a treasure house of
stalactites of different images. The other can be toured
by a boat, which car ries visitors down the Tongtian River
for a look at the Hailuo(Canch) Palace, Ch aoxi (Tidal)
Pool, the underground Heavenly Pavilion and several other
attractio n. The resort is close to Miao settlements. |
| Yangming Cave and Yangming
Temple |

| Both
the cave and the temple are named after Wang Shouren (alias
Wang Yangming), a Ming-dynasty educator and philosspher,
who was demoted to become a magistrate of present-day
Xiuwen County of Guizhou. During his tenure there Wang
devoted h imself to running schools and training literary
talents. Local people adored him and, in his memory, built
this complex called Yangming Cave on the heavily wood
ed Longgang Mountain about two kilometres east of Xiuwen
County. Yangming Temple , a structure built of 1819, is
at the foot of Fufeng Mountain outside the Easte rn Gate
of Guiyang. The spacious main hall has many inscription
by famous peopl e in history. The hall is imbedded with
inscriptions of Wang's letters to family members and the
full text of his ¡°Accounts of Bridges and Pavilions" in
his own handwriting. |
| Jiaxiu Tower |
|
Perched on a
boulder in the Nanming River is Guiyang, Jiaxiu Tower
was built in 1598, and is the city's landmark. The tower
is a 20-metre-high, three-floor stru cture with a three-eave
hipped roof, and has its outer joinery propped up by 12
stone pillars. It is surrounded with a marble balustrade.
Jiaxiu Tower is linked with the Fuyu Bridge which provides
access to both the south and north banks. |
| Xifeng Hot Springs |
|
Located
at the foot of Tiantai Mountain, 43 kilometres northeast
of the county s eat of Xifeng, the spring water has been
verfied by experts to contain rare elem ents needed by
human body. Hot spring baths here can help improve blood
circulat ion and metabolism and are believed to be effective
in treating problems such as arthritis, heart disease
and hypertension.
A sanatorium
has been built in the bamboo groves with beautiful and
tranquil sur roundings in the mountain. |
| Xifeng Concentration Camp |

| The
former site of the Xifeng Concentration Camp is found
at Yanglangba, six kil ometres from Xifeng. It is tucked
away amidst towering ancient trees and surroun ded by
high mountains that have lakes and caves. The camp was
built by the Kuomi ntang's secret service during the War
of Resistance Against Japan to secretly im priosn the
Communists. There are 43 priosn cells in eight huildings
here. Today, the former camp is protected as a key national
historical site. |
| Ancient Town of Qinyan |

Qingyan, established
as a town in 1738 in the Ming Dyanasty, is 29 kilometres
fr om Guiyang. Mang ancient buildings and cultural relics
of this walled town have been well preserved, including
over 100 sites of historical interest. The unique ness
of this ancient town lies in its three stone archways,
dwelling with double -eave roofs, stairwaytype streets
paved with flagstone and certain ancient build ings. It
was designated as a national cultural relic in 1995. |
| Kaiyang Gorge Park |

| Located
in Kaiyang County, 54 kilometres from Guiyang, this gorge
is a newly dev eloped scenic spot. In the 18kilometre-long
section open to tourists, one can ra ft along the river,
play in the water amusement park, study the ecology of
the a rea and enjor the fascinating sustoms of the Yi
people. Raftiong through a serie s of rapids and shoals
in the gorge, which is thrilling but safe, has become
a p opular tourist attraction. |
| Wenchang Pavilion |

This pavilion,
situated atop the eastern city gate of Guiyang, was built
in 1609 and has undergone repeated reconstruction and
repairs in the intervening years. Wenchang Pavilion is
a three-storey building under a three-eave roof with nine
irregular edges, a specidal structure that is typical
of the local architectural style. It is under provinceal
protection as a cultural heritage. |
| Zhen shan Ethnic Culture Village |

| Situated
in Huaxi District, Guiyang, Zhenshan Village8 is a world
of stone, wher e door frames ,paths, roads and even quite
a few utensils are all made of stone, and roofs are covered
with slate. An ancient castle and barracks have remained
largely intact in the village. Costumed Buoyei men and
women sing and dance at t he village entrance as they
greet vistiors and invite them to join the villagers in
pounding glutinous rice to make cake flour, preparing
meals and having fun. |
